About Toxindex

We're building the intelligence required to evaluate any substance, at any exposure, at any scale.

The toxicology industry faces a capacity crisis. There are 9,000 toxicologists in North America, 86,000+ chemicals in the EPA inventory, and 88% of new chemical reviews are overdue. Senior consultants bill $350–$1,000/hour. Regulators are mandating computational methods most consultancies cannot deliver. Demand is growing. Supply is fixed.

We're building autonomous infrastructure to fully automate evidence-based decision making in toxicology—from literature review through regulatory submission. Our decade of development has created three interlocking capabilities: BioBricks (data), Sysrev (validation), and ToxIndex (automation). Each component reinforces the others, and together, they form the necessary infrastructure for accurate, automated risk assessment.

Our approach

Purpose-built Agents

Our ToxTransformer model predicts 4,000+ toxicity endpoints. Specialized agents coordinate literature retrieval, database lookups, and models for metabolism, QSAR, ADME. Validated against regulatory standards with defensible audit trails.

Human in the loop

Every assessment passes through expert review. Toxicologists validate conclusions, catch errors, and create the audit trails that regulatory submissions require.

Open data foundation

BioBricks provides 135+ curated datasets in FAIR-compliant, queryable formats. Selected by NSF for the Proto-OKN initiative to build the first national open knowledge network for chemical safety.

Regulatory alignment

FDA Modernization Act 2.0 removed mandatory animal testing. NIH no longer funds animal-only research. The EU's REACH regulation and SCCS guidelines increasingly require New Approach Methodologies for chemical safety evaluation. Computational methods aren't optional anymore—they're mandated. We're building the infrastructure to meet that mandate.

Awards

Federal agencies (NIH, NSF), international programs (EU Horizon), and state initiatives funding our core platform development.
