Why we exist
Close the gap between chemicals and capacity
More than 88% of EPA chemical assessments are overdue, and only about 9,000 toxicologists practice in North America. The work has outrun the people who can do it. Toxicologists spend most of their time gathering evidence rather than evaluating it.
We build the infrastructure that changes that ratio by automating the gathering, prediction, and drafting so experts spend their hours on judgment. ToxIndex serves CROs, consultancies, and internal teams across pharma, energy, agriculture, cosmetics, and consumer products.

Led by a toxicologist who builds
Dr. Tom Luechtefeld — Founder & CEO
Tom holds a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and has worked at the intersection of AI, toxicology, and public health for more than a decade. He is lead author of the RASAR paper, has been cited over 2,800 times, and is the serial builder behind Sysrev, BioBricks.ai, and ToxIndex.

A decade replacing animal tests
It runs through everything we build. Our founder's RASAR models matched the reproducibility of the animal tests they replace, straight from data, and we built three of the core AI tools in ONTOX, the EU program for animal-free chemical risk assessment.

An AI-accelerated systematic review platform in production since 2019, with thousands of projects and more than 94 million relevance predictions.

We led a ToxIndex training session for ECHA at the EPAA New Approach Methodologies User Forum, putting agentic toxicology in front of the regulators who will rely on it.
Johns Hopkins CAAT
Our Evidence-based AI framework is co-authored with Dr. Thomas Hartung and peer-reviewed in Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence, the epistemic foundation ToxIndex is built on.
ASCCT & ESTIV
We present our agentic workflows in the ASCCT–ESTIV webinar series, and bring ToxIndex to the ESTIV 2026 congress in Maastricht.
OpenTox & ONTOX
A fixture in the open-toxicology community, we speak at OpenTox conferences and built three of the core AI tools in the EU ONTOX consortium.
