ToxIndex

Building the infrastructure for computational toxicology

Toxicologists spend most of their time gathering evidence, not evaluating it. We've spent years (backed by NIH, NSF, and EU Horizon grants) building tools that automate the gathering, prediction, and report generation so they can focus on the science.

ToxIndex is operated by Insilica, a team of data scientists, computational researchers, and software engineers.

Our approach

Domain-specific AI

Models trained on toxicology data, regulatory language, and chemical safety workflows. Not general-purpose AI with a science prompt. These are tools we built from scratch for computational toxicology.

Open data foundation

A curated knowledge graph linking hundreds of chemistry and toxicology datasets into one queryable structure. Selected by NSF for the Proto-OKN initiative to build the first national open knowledge network for chemical safety.

Human-in-the-loop

Assessments go through expert review. Toxicologists validate conclusions, catch errors, and build the audit trails that regulatory submissions require. The AI handles evidence gathering; the scientist handles judgment.

Regulatory alignment

FDA Modernization Act 2.0 removed mandatory animal testing. NIH no longer funds animal-only research. REACH and SCCS increasingly require New Approach Methodologies. ToxIndex is the infrastructure these regulations need.

Research funding

Federal and international grants funding core platform development.
